Travel Calendar
This section started out as a modest addition to
our online newsletter. The idea was to take a sampling of festivals and
events worldwide and publish a little bit of information about them.
We asked our research person,
Flo Heckenbach, to
set up the department and insert a few items each month.
We didn't reckon with Flo's imagination, energy
or initiative. A few editions of The Cultured Traveler later, we realized that Flo had built the
Calendar section into a major resource. Thanks to her, our Calendar database has
nearly 1,000 recurring entries—monthly!
As they say, "Mighty oaks from little acorns
grow." Thanks, Flo.

Santa Monica, CA-based Flo Heckenbach is the
creator and editor of The Cultured Traveler’s Calendar feature, which
now has a database of more than 700 festivals worldwide. Heckenbach started
the section in 2001 as a small add-on to the newsletter’s archiving
capabilities. Over several months, she grew the section both in terms of
scope and sophistication. The section now provides the capability to search
for festivals by theme, country or date.
Heckenbach, a seasoned traveler who has made
many visits to Europe, North Africa and the Mediterranean littoral, has
extensive experience with non-profit foundations as an organizer and
fundraiser.
